Pisces + Leo = Love

Actually, if you follow the Zodiac as it applies to the rules of love, then you know that the title of this post is largely considered false.  But that actually brings us to the point of this week’s astrology news — though it isn’t really news, it’s more of an opinion … verging on a rant, but hey, that’s besides the point.

The point is: how much does the Zodiac love chart affect your choices?  Do you pick potential mates based solely on their sign?  Do you believe that two signs who are widely considered a bad match cannot make it work?  Some folks do, and of course that’s their choice.

But take Leo and Pisces, just as a for instance.  Can the balance not work out?  The arrogance, head strong nature of the Leo is, from personal experience, imminently balanced by the collected, regimented nature of the Pisces.  Of course, sometimes the stubbornness of the lion and the chill of the fish can make for some serious steam — but what is love without a little fire?

The Equinox Unraveled

With Mabon, the autumn equinox, falling on September 22, it seems to be the perfect time to discuss the particulars of both the equinoxes and the solstices, which are very important to both astrology and, really, life in general.  There is something magical about the autumn and spring equinoxes, something terribly romantic of both the summer and winter solstices.

The equinoxes and solstices occur when the Sun creates a ninety degree angle with the Tropics – the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.  Notice, of course, that these are both astrological signs as well.  Did you know, however, that there are actually other special days mixed up in there?  The Cross Quarter Days also act as Sabbat, and are comprised of eight points which made up a version of the year’s cycle.

Yule takes place on the Winter Solstice.  Imbolc takes place on February 2 – what we know as Ground Hog Day.  The Spring Equinox is also known as Ostara, and it lines up with Easter just as the Winter Solstice aligns with Christmas.  Beltane is also known as May Day and occurs on either May 1 or May 5.  Litha takes place on the Summer Soltice and in August – either the first or the fifth, again – we have Lughnasadh, which is also known as Lammas.  Mabon, of course, is the Autumn Equinox, and then there is Halloween and Samhain, which occur on October 31 and November 1, respectively.

Autumn & Astrology & Libra, Oh My!

Autumn is an important time in astrology, not in the least because Mabon, the celebration of the autumn equinox, is fast approaching.  September in particular is important – again, not just because of Maybon (pronounced MAY-bun; it happens on September 22), but also because it is the month of the Libra.  When you think about it, this particular astrological sign is the essence of autumn itself.

It is the perfect season for epitomizing life and death – September, especially, is the perfect month for that.  In October, the leaves have all turned already for the most part; in some parts of the country, we have had our first frost.  In September, however, there is still the dream of Indian summer, even as the leaves are turning red and russet.  There is a delicate balance taking place this month – and the Libra is well versed in the art of perfect balance.

In Haiti right now, Papa Gede rules, wearing his sun glasses with one lens gone – to better see both the living world and the spirit world, of course.  As we get closer towards the last days of this month, one can almost imagine him dancing under the stars with this Libra goddess, he keeping time with his artful cane, her scales chiming, as they preside over the death of summer, the birth of winter, and impart that balance to all of us as we sleep.

Astrology and the Future: Saturn vs. Uranus

Could astrology have an effect on the election?  A lot of people are considering just that.  On the very day of the election in the United States, Saturn and Uranus are going to begin a series of five oppositions.  This will not end until 2010, in the summer.  This could mean a number of things, considering the fact that Saturn as a planet rules over the status quo, and the structures of government and society designed to keep chaos away.  Conversely, Uranus actually invites chaos into the world, in order to create huge and radical changes.  It seeks and promotes new and innovative ideas, new ways of thinking, discoveries, and technologies.

In terms of the election, this could lead to several results.  Does it mean that the United States will have its first African American president, or does it mean that we will have our first female Vice President?  We could look at it that way, as both conclusions could be classified as both innovative and potentially chaotic.  However, given the current state of the economy and the fact that we are bordering on a recession, many people fear bleaker things.  What do you think?

Astrology in the Work Force

Could your astrological sign have an affect on how much money you make and how satisfied you are with your job?  There is quite a bit of evidence to those ends.  For example, as far as compensation goes, if you are a Scorpio, Leo, Taurus, or Cancer, you are quite likely to earn six figures a year – at least one hundred thousand dollars annually.  However, if you are an Aquarius or Capricorn, you are more apt to earn about $35,000 a year.  Conversely, Capricorns, along with Pisces and Sagittarius are more likely to be satisfied with their occupations, while signs like Gemini and Cancer are far less likely to be satisfied.

“Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’”
—Bob Dylan

At its core the physical world revolves around sex, money, and power, all three reside in Pluto’s domain.

But the importance in the personal horoscope placement of Pluto’s ruler ship of these areas is to show an individual HOW to recognize and manage their personal power in regards to the power issues of secrets, sex, money and change.

When you accept that you have the power to control these issues in your life, rather than live in denial or hand over your power to others in this area, then Pluto’s energy acts as a support instead of a wake-up call. Pluto in Astrology and History: Managing Power and Change – Part One

“The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin’
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’”
—Bob Dylan

In the United States, 2008 is a presidential election year; the result of this process is the transition of power from one political perspective to another. In astrology, it is the planet Pluto (or dwarf planet, according to the 2007 decision from the International Astronomical Union) that is the Master Change Maker.

Pluto in Roman mythology, the god of the lower world and his name meant riches or wealth, taken from the Greek word “ploutos.” The word “plutocracy” defined as rule or government by the wealthy, is based on the belief that precious metals and crops came from his underground realm. Pluto is often associated with the more feared the Greek god of the underworld Hades. Both are related to Saturn, the owner of Time, the one who bestows authority and power.

This year Pluto transited Capricorn from January 25 to June 13, 2008 and will return to this sign after the US elections on November 26, 2008 remaining there until November 19, 2024. This sixteen-year span of time is expected to be a major period of history by many different systems of astrology from the Mayan scrolls to the Vedanta of India. In the next part of the series, we will review how Pluto’s energy works in a personal horoscope.

Book Review: Getting to Know Pluto the Transformer

Posted on June 25, 2008
Filed Under Book Reviews | Leave a Comment

In astrology discussions, the attributes of planet Saturn receive a lot of attention. The paternal archetype who says: “No” to your desire to move forward before you are ready, representing authority and discipline doesn’t make him very popular.

On the other hand, there is Pluto, demoted to “dwarf” from “planet” status, nevertheless is still awesome in terms of the power attributed to it: transformation.

To fully comprehend the extent of this planet ability, refer to the element of Plutonium and you begin to get the picture. Understanding the energy of Pluto in your horoscope can extremely valuable in relationships where power plays are common.

In “The Book of Pluto,” author Steven Forrest does an amazing job of putting Pluto’s influence on the horoscope into an easy to digest format–without losing the focus of the importance of its transformational effect.
