A Real Midsummer’s Night Dream: the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge

What do you call the longest day and shortest night of the year? The Summer Solstice! In 2008 it takes place on June 20th and marks the arrival of the Sun at the latitude of 23°N26′ (known as the Tropic of Cancer) and 00:00 degrees in the astrological sign of Cancer. For centuries festivities have taken place to honor two of the most powerful forces of nature: fire (the Sun) and water (the Moon).
Why not make this year’s event a truly mystical experience: make your own journey to England’s Stonehenge, a World Heritage Site. What remains at the site today are the last remnants of the monuments erected between circa 3000BC and 1600BC.
For organized tour information visit the official Stonehenge page. You can also view artifacts from Stonehenge at the London Museum, Salisbury Museum and Devizes Museum. Tune into your connection with nature at one of the most sacred and ancient places on the planet.
